  • Phibbs Quartet’s 2-4

    rtf classical

A recording to celebrate 10 years of us performing Joseph Phibbs! The disc includes a new commission from the Richard Thomas Foundation, Quartet No.4 which was written for us specifically in mind. Quartet No.2 was a hit with audiences and critics alike while No.3 was commissioned by the Belcea Quartet and performed all over the world.

  • Contusion

    NMC RECORDS

In 2015 we were awarded the Sidney Griller Prize for best performance of the set contemporary work at the Wigmore International SQ Competition. That piece was ‘Contusion’, Mark-Anthony Turnage’s second quartet, based on Sylvia Plath’s last poem before her suicide 12 days later. The piece was revised and dedicated to us in 2016 and we are proud to be part of this album entitled ‘Bracing Change’ featuring two other internationally renowned quartets and composers.

  • Winter’s Edge

    Delphian records

Two incredibly soulful and passionate quartets by Mark-Anthony Turnage feature in this recording. ‘Shroud’, commissioned by the Emerson Quartet in 2016 and ‘Winter’s Edge’, commissioned by us in 2019, make up his 3rd and 4th quartets and they are powerful and compelling additions to the quartet canon.

  • Boyle, RVW, Ireland and Moeran

    rubicon classics

The premiere commercial recording of Ina Boyle’s string quartet is released after nearly 90 years since its composition. Boyle was one of, if not, the most influential Irish composer of the first half of the 20th Century and her style has a beautifully distinctive and melodic character. This disc also includes rarely recorded quartet gems from her teacher Ralph Vaughan Williams and her contemporaries, E.J.Moeran and John Ireland.

  • On Wenlock Edge
